The fifth Energy and Climate Committee meeting was held on 25 March to discuss countries’ progress on updating their nationally determined contributions (NDC2) and integrated national energy and climate plans (NECPs). The event, which was attended by 70 participants, was held online in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Paris Agreement, state parties have to deliver their new nationally determined contributions every five years. It is worth noting, that the Republic of Moldova is one of the first countries that has already delivered its nationally determined contributions. Georgia is expected to open a public consultation on its NDC2 by the end of March 2020, while Ukraine is in the process of updating its contributions.

At the meeting, the European Commission also announced a call for tender for a study aimed at extending the modelling capacities of the EU to the state parties for calculating their 2030 overall targets. The Commission also emphasised the link between NECPs and the Green Deal.
