The EU-funded project ‘PubLiCity’, implemented in the Belarusian city of Polack, published the results of its latest public opinion survey.
More than 2,000 respondents gave positive feedback on the quality of the new public lighting in the city. Almost 60% of respondents think that street lighting in the city centre is now better than in other parts of Polack, and are generally satisfied with the quality of the new public lighting.
The survey also revealed some areas for improvement. The residents of Polack would like to see better public lighting in other parts of the city, such as pedestrian zones, routes to schools and kindergartens, crossroads, pedestrian crossings and bus stops.
‘Publicity’ (implemented from 2015 to 2019) has been the most ambitious project for modernisation of public lighting in Belarus to date. Thanks to the project, almost 2,000 new LED lamps, light poles, control boxes and 12 solar-powered lamps have been installed on 28 streets in the city. A total of 26 urban sites have received new lighting, including Saint Sophia Cathedral, Francysk Skaryna Avenue and a bridge over the Daugava River.
