Preschool No. 9 Romashka in the Ukrainian city of Myrhorod, Donetsk region, will undergo comprehensive reconstruction works with support from the European Investment Bank (EIB), the lending arm of the EU. The preschool is expected to open again in 2021.

The project is part of the ‘Ukraine early recovery’ programme, which aims to restore the social infrastructure in areas that host large numbers of internally displaced people from eastern Ukraine. The programme is expected to improve the lives of nearly 50,000 local residents and internally displaced people in the conflict-affected areas of Donetsk and Luhansk.

At the Ukrainian government’s request, the EIB has provided financing for the first ‘Ukraine early recovery’ programme for 2015–2021. The multi-sector framework loan of €200 million helps local governments to recover critical municipal and transport infrastructure and improve the living conditions of internally displaced people and their host communities in nine regions of Ukraine: the Ukrainian government-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as Kharkiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Odesa, Kherson and Kyiv.
