The Ukrainian city of Kharkiv has received brand new low-floor, single-section trolleybuses as part of the project ‘Ukraine urban public transport’, which aims to improve public transport infrastructure in Ukrainian cities.

Jean-Erik de Zagon, head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) representation in Ukraine, said:

“The key attributes for modern transport are comfort for passengers and safety for the environment. Now Kharkiv residents have the opportunity to use quality and environmentally friendly public transport. I am glad that the EIB can contribute to this mission via strategic loans such as the ‘Ukraine urban public transport project’.”

The 49 energy-efficient trolleybuses were purchased with a €10 million loan from the EIB, to upgrade the city’s trolleybus fleet. In addition, the EU provided €3.5 million of grant funding for technical assistance to help the Ministry of Infrastructure and participating cities to implement European standards of sustainable urban mobility.

“Kharkiv is one of 11 cities where rolling stock is being replaced thanks to funds raised from the EIB. We are glad that together with our European partners we can improve the daily living conditions of Kharkiv residents. Improvement of the city's public transport will make it modern, environmentally friendly, and more accessible for people with disabilities”, said the Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Natalie Forsyuk.
