A children’s drawing competition was organised in the Moldovan town of Festelnita on 16 June as part of an EU Sustainable Energy Week celebration. The young participants drew how they would protect the environment and use renewable energy sources such as water, sunlight and wind. The best pictures were awarded prizes.

A mobile planetarium and open-air cinema were also opened for visitors in Festelnita as part of the celebration. Both children and their parents were able to discover the secrets of the universe, as well as watch thematic environmental movies while enjoying the summer weather.

All the events in the framework of the EU Sustainable Energy Week were organised as part of the EU-financed Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP), in which Festelnita is participating.

CoM-DeP are part of the EU4Energy initiative. EU4Energy covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine). It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. In the long term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
