The inaugural meeting of the Commission for Sustainable Use and Protection of the Dniester River Basin took place on 17 September in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The commission was set up under the Dniester River Basin Agreement between Moldova and Ukraine, two contracting parties to the Energy Community Treaty.

Deputy Director Dirk Buschle and Senior Environmental Expert Peter Vajda of the Energy Community Secretariat participated in the meeting.

The Energy Community Secretariat’s focus in working with the Commission will be on environmental issues related to the operation of existing and construction of new hydropower plants on the Dniester River. It will help ensure compliance with the acquis communautaire in this respect.
