Experts of the "Energy reforms" coalition called for urgent reforms in the areas of energy and the environment during a recent press briefing in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The event was organised by the EU-supported project “Enhancing impact of civil society in monitoring and policy dialogue on energy and related sectors’ reforms in line with the Association Agreement”, which is part of the EU4Energy initiative.

The experts underlined that only 37% of the EU reforms in the gas sector of Ukraine have been implemented: 28% in the areas of electricity and nuclear safety and 19% in the energy efficiency field.

According to the experts, there has been a serious slowing down of reforms in the gas sector. The decision to increase gas prices for households creates a risk of non-adjustment to tariffs for heating, which will in turn increase the debts of heating supply companies.

In the area of energy efficiency, the experts emphasised the gap between the available financing and demand for the "warm loans" programme. Moreover, the Energy Community Secretariat has opened a case against Ukraine in the field of energy efficiency. More details on the results of the analysis presented during the press briefing are available in the monthly monitoring report.

The event was organised by leading Ukrainian non-governmental organisations. The project was funded by the EU as part of the EU4Energy Initiative and co-funded by the International Renaissance Foundation, and aims to strengthen the role of civil society in advocating reforms in the energy sector and related sectors.
