On 8 November, a new eight-kilometre cycle path was opened in the Belarusian city of Kobryn to link up the city’s sightseeing attractions. The creation of the new route was made possible thanks to the city’s participation in the ‘Covenant of Mayors on Сlimate and Energy’ initiative, as well as financial support from the EU.

The creation of the cycle path involved drawing new road markings, reducing the height of curbs and pavements, strengthening the sides of roads and installing 189 road signs, 32 LED floodlights and 14 bicycle parking areas. In addition, 12 bicycles were purchased to set up a rental centre and traffic lights were set up to help ensure the safety of cyclists.

The cycle path was opened in the framework of a local initiative of the EU-funded project ‘StrongCoM — Strenthening the Covenant of Mayors Movement in Belarus’. Works were carried out by Kobrin Housing and Communal Services, under the leadership of Kobryn District Executive Committee.
