Thanks to the support offered by the EU under the ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’ programme, Cantemir has become the first town in the Republic of Moldova to install an energy-efficient street lighting system and introduce state-of-the-art technology for its management. The total cost of the works amounted to €250,000, 80% of which was offered as an EU grant.
More than 5,000 residents of Cantemir have benefited from the project and improved their living conditions. The town’s administration will also be able to save money on street lighting and ensure better management and maintenance.
