The European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided a senior loan of €25 million to “PJSC Myronivsky Hliboproduct” (MHP), a Ukrainian producer of poultry meat, grain and animal feed. The loan will be used to construct and put into operation a biogas plant in the town of Ladyzhyn. The project will benefit from a €316,000 grant available under the EBRD’s Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) programme, to which the EU is a contributor.

The biogas plant will utilise chicken manure and other agricultural residues from poultry and grain operations. This will help MHP to develop green energy capacity, become self-sufficient in terms of energy, reduce its environmental footprint and manage waste. This will be the largest biogas facility in Ukraine to date. It is expected that, once operational, the biogas plant will reduce emissions by equivalent to 90,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
