The results of three years of work on the EU-financed project “Braslaŭ district – the first climate-neutral municipality in Belarus” were summarised at the project’s closing conference, which took place in late November in Braslaŭ. The project is part of the EU-supported “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” initiative. In February 2014, the town of Braslaŭ signed the Covenant of Mayors, undertaking a commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by the year 2020.

As a result, new LED lamps were installed on the city’s streets and “smart” solar lights were installed in the city park. Additionally, solar collectors were installed in the local kindergarten to heat water, and the district boiler plant was reopened after its reconstruction.

Part of the work in the Braslaŭ region was associated with informing and educating the population on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
