Batumi, Georgia’s third-largest city, will improve and modernise its public transport by introducing “green” buses. Batumi will acquire 10 battery electric buses, the first such ones in Georgia, and 20 new buses with Euro 5 reduced-emission engines to ensure improved environmental and operational performance.

The vehicles will improve the service for the city’s local population and tourists by increasing the reliability, safety and efficiency of public transport, while also benefiting the environment by reducing emissions. The low-floor buses will facilitate access for passengers, including those with limited movement, the elderly and the disabled, as well as parents with pushchairs.

The city benefits from the support of the multi-donor Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) fund, to which the European Union is the largest contributor. The E5P fund is managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
