On 22-25 January, the Director of the Energy Community, Janez Kopač, participated in a panel discussion on the investment climate in Ukraine at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

At the climate-change focused meeting, Mr Kopač underlined that the investment climate in the energy sector in Ukraine has substantially improved due to the transposition of EU rules in the framework of the Energy Community. The current process of the full liberalisation of the electricity market by 1 July 2019 and the introduction of auctions as a basis for renewables support schemes are building investor confidence.

The improvement in the investment climate is already reflected in a new agreement between Ukraine and the Norwegian company NBT, French company Total and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the construction of a wind power project with 250 MW of installed capacity in southern Ukraine, signed on the sidelines of the meeting.
