On 9 December, the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, as well as 14 other cities in the Kharkiv region, signed an agreement to support the implementation of large-scale projects on comprehensive housing modernisation in Ukraine, in partnership with the Energy Efficiency Fund.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Director of the State Energy Efficiency Fund of Ukraine, Yulia Golovatyuk-Ungureanu, and heads and deputies of the 15 Ukrainian cities.

Golovatyuk-Ungureanu stressed that the Kharkiv region was one of the first to join the Energy Efficiency Fund programme and is now testing all programme procedures. She also noted that, thanks to complex modernisation processes, co-owners of apartment buildings can reduce the cost of housing and communal services by two to three times.

Currently, there are over 1,600 apartment buildings in Kharkiv. The vast majority of them do not meet the current energy-saving requirements and therefore have low energy savings. “ENERGODIM”, a local programme currently running in Kharkiv to support the energy-related modernisation of multi-apartment buildings, will support the owners of buildings by offering partial reimbursement of construction costs for purchasing energy-efficient materials.
