The Vice-President of European Commission Maroš Šefčovič is to chair the fifth round of trilateral political discussions on the long-term transit of gas with Russia and Ukraine, which takes place on 19 December in Berlin, Germany.

“It is high time to send a positive message to markets and consumers”, said Maroš Šefčovič.

Among other things, the talks will aim to reach a common understanding that a future contract will be drawn up based on EU legislation and that tariff setting will follow a new methodology in line with EU practice. They also should focus on volume in the future transit contract, as well as agreeing the contract's duration.
