The Georgian village Gulgula in the municipality of Telavi tested energy-efficient equipment for collecting and processing waste wood from vineyards. The equipment will ensure the efficient and uninterrupted supply of biomass for heating the municipal kindergartens.

The municipality received the equipment in January as part of the EU project ‘Biomass energy and energy-efficient technologies as sustainable energy solutions for Georgian signatories of the Covenant of Mayors’.

The project is funded by the EU programme ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’ under the EU4Energy initiative, and is implemented by the Energy Efficiency Centre in Georgia. The EU’s total contribution to the project is nearly €600,000 with co-financing from Telavi Municipality of almost €150,000.
