The Emergency Committee in the Republic of Moldova has decided to temporarily suspend the ongoing electricity procurement process for three months in light of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The state-owned trader Energocom has signed a unilateral contract with MGRES (a gas-fired power plant in the Trans-Dniester region), claiming that MGRES is the only energy producer that can fully cover the electricity demand in Moldova, and that there will be a 9% decrease in market prices.

The new contract between Energocom and MGRES is valid from 1 April 2020 until 30 June 2020.
