On 24 September, the ‘EU4Energy governance’ project organised high-level policy talks on the electricity market integration between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

The online discussion focused on the state of play of the national market reforms in Moldova. These reforms are necessary to ensure a smooth transition to a system where the transmission system operator (TSO) plays a central role in balancing energy and settling imbalance.

Participants agreed that while progress has been made in the inter-TSO agreement for settling cross-border deviations, the two countries still need to develop joint rules and cross-border capacity allocation.

In the following six months, event participants agreed to join forces to ensure that electricity market rules in Moldova and cross-border exchanges with Ukraine are implemented by the third quarter of 2021.
