On 4 December, the head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, visited the city of Lviv for the contract signing of the construction of a wastewater biogas facility. The project is funded by the EU and the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership, and it can potentially cut CO2 emissions by 120,000 tonnes per year.

Ambassador Maasikas said: “This is a great example of how the EU Green Deal already works, contributing to citizens' better quality of life, being an important step towards a more sustainable economy.”

During his visit, the ambassador also visited three residential buildings in the district of Sykhiv that are being renovated as part of the ‘Energodim’ programme. The initiative is implemented by the Energy Efficiency Fund in Ukraine with support from the EU and other international partners. Thanks to ‘Energodim’, the buildings’ energy consumption will be reduced by around 40%.
