On 22 December, the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management of the Verkhovna Rada in Ukraine initiated committee hearings on Ukraine's participation in the European Green Deal. The hearings were held virtually and discussed the vision of Ukraine's commitments under the European Green Deal, within the framework of the Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement, as well as energy efficiency strategies.

The discussions were attended by representatives of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, the Energy Efficiency Fund in Ukraine, central government, local authorities, academia, as well as MPs of Ukraine and international organisations, embassies and businesses.

Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for the European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, noted that this is a cross-sectoral issue and concerns not only the environment, but many other areas including infrastructure and energy.

Chloe Alio, Head of the Energy, Transport and Environment Section of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, said that the European Commission has allocated €10 million to Ukraine for the creation of a climate centre, energy efficient transport and more.

During her speech, Yulia Holovatyuk-Ungureanu, Director of the Energy Efficiency Fund, presented the results of this year's programme to support the energy modernisation of buildings through the energy-efficiency programme ‘Energodim’ and key aspects of the fund's plan for the coming years. She noted that cooperation with the fund under the Energodim programme will significantly reduce energy consumption and, consequently, reduce the negative impact on the environment, bringing the EU's goal of transforming Europe into a climate-neutral continent closer.
