On 14-15 January, experts from the Energy Community Secretariat, Belgium and Estonia will visit Azerbaijan to share European best practice and experience from both the EU Member States and the Energy Community on energy market reforms and the establishment of functioning, competitive national electricity and gas markets. The event will be attended by representatives of the country’s Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Energy Regulation Agency, State Agency of Alternative and Renewable Energy, state-owned energy entities and private energy entities.

During the workshop, participants will discuss advice on the EU legislation and the sequencing of market reforms, the separation of activities and establishment of separate energy undertakings as well as their tasks, roles and competences. Additionally, experts will explain the important role of a national energy regulatory authority and the unbundling of Transmission System Operators (TSO).

The workshop is organised by the European Commission’s Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX), in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.

TAIEX is a demand-driven tool that supports partner countries with the adaptation of national laws, regulations and quality standards to match those of EU Member States in the framework of Cooperation or Association Agreements signed with the EU. In the Eastern Neighbourhood, TAIEX works with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
