A new survey shows that residents of Polack, Belarus, tend to save more energy in their everyday lives and think more about the environment than they did in 2016.

This year, 86% of respondents confirmed that they try to save energy at home. In contrast, in 2016, only 79% of people said they were trying to be more energy efficient. Additionally, almost a third (32%) of respondents said that they have replaced all their light bulbs for LED ones – almost 10% more than in 2016.

When it comes to energy saving, Polack’s residents are motivated mostly by financial benefits. However, more people are switching to energy efficiency thanks to environmental reasons. Residents of Polack also show progress in terms of water saving – two-thirds (67%) of respondents said that they try to spend less time showering, and 63% turn off the water while brushing their teeth and washing dishes.

To a large extent, this change is happening thanks to awareness raising as part of the EU-supported Covenant of Mayors East initiative and Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects. Full results of the public opinion surveys in 2016 and 2019 are available here (in Russian).
