An Energy Charter group of experts conducted an in-depth energy efficiency review of Azerbaijan on 16–18 June 2019.
The fact-finding mission provided an opportunity to discuss issues and challenges with stakeholders of the country’s energy sector and will provide the basis for the recommendations to be presented in a report for adoption by the Energy Charter Conference (the International Energy Charter’s decision-making body) at its annual meeting later this year.
The review team was comprised of the following representatives:
- Mr Nikola Tsankov, Secretary General of the Sustainable Energy Development Agency (SEDA), Bulgaria;
- Dr Roman Podolets, Institute for Economics and Forecasting, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (IEF/NASU);
- Mr Korkmaz Gul, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey;
- Dr Oleksandr Antonenko, representative of the Energy Charter Secretariat.
The team were also joined by Mr Dangis Verseckas, representative of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan.
The peer review mission was organised in cooperation with the EU4Energy technical assistance project, which is supporting the development of the first National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) of Azerbaijan. On 1 January 2020, Azerbaijan will also assume the Chairmanship of the Energy Charter Conference.
