Thanks to the EU-funded programme Climate Innovation Vouchers, a Ukrainian start-up has found a way to produce building materials from hemp, reducing CO2 emissions.

Using only 100% natural components – hemp, proprietary lime-based organic binder and water – the company Hempire UA developed a carbon-negative insulation material (‘Hempire Mix’) that is ready to use in five minutes. No cement, toxic components or chemicals are used in the mix preparation. The company improved the technology and is obtaining the necessary certificates to expand domestically and internationally.

Set up under the Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change and funded by the EU and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Climate Innovation Vouchers programme is implemented in Ukraine by Greencubator.
