On 11-12 March, the EU and Armenia held a sub-committee meeting on energy, transport, climate action and civil protection. Because of the current coronavirus pandemic, the event took place via a video link between Yerevan and Brussels.

The meeting took stock of Armenia's progress in the fields of energy, transport, climate action and civil protection, as per the EU–Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The EU welcomed Armenia’s progress and encouraged the country to meet the timeframe of the CEPA roadmap.

During the meeting, Armenia expressed its will to further its participation in the training programme ‘Union Civil Protection Mechanism’, while the EU announced it is ready to sign the twinning programme ‘Enhancing Civil Protection in Armenia’.

The meeting also covered the European Green Deal, the EU’s long-term low greenhouse gas development strategy.

Additionally, the two parties discussed the top priority government project for the construction of the Sisian–Kajaran road, as well as energy efficiency and environmental protection issues.
