Belarus: Second meeting of the Club of the Covenant of Mayors Signatories in the Republic of Belarus
On February 20, 2020 in Polotsk City, the Republic of Belarus, a meeting with donors, representatives of international financial organizations and ministries will be held as part of the second meeting of the Club of the Covenant of Mayors Signatories in the Republic of Belarus.
On February 19, 2020 the final conference of the project "CityLight: Energy-efficient modernization of street lighting in the city of Polotsk" with the title “Street lighting in the cities of Belarus: present and future” will be held in Polotsk City, the Republic of Belarus.
Within the framework of the EU-funded project 'Covenant of Mayors - East', the Platform for Local Sustainable Development was launched in Chisinau.
Armenia: Yerevan takes leading positions in implementing large-scale street lighting modernization program
Street lighting in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia and the signatory of the Covenant of Mayors, is rapidly being changed thanks to large-scale and consistent actions aimed to replace old street lamps with new energy-saving LED lamps, implemented by the Municipality of Yerevan with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Armenia and other partners.
Armenia: Closing ceremony of the project “Access to Renewable and Efficient Energy in Vayk and Spitak Municipalities”
On November 30, 2019, the closing ceremony of the “Access to Renewable and Efficient Energy in Vayk and Spitak Municipalities” (AREEM) project, implemented by the Habitat for Humanity Armenia Fund within the framework of the program “Covenant of Mayors - Demonstration Projects” was held in Yerevan with financial support from European Union and with co-financing of local city administrations.
Armenia: Presentation of the Gavar Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan within the framework of working session regarding climate change and adaptation issues
“Climate change vulnerability and adaptation: example of Gavar” working session took place on December 3 in Gavar. The event aimed at discussing climate change challenges and adaptation opportunities of the province with regional representatives, as well as presenting the example of “Gavar Sustainable energy and climate action plan” project. The event was organized in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia National Adaptation Plan project with the support of Union of Communities of Armenia, Gegharkunik Regional Administration and Gavar Municipality.
Gyumri, the second largest city of Armenia and signatory of the Covenant of Mayors, has joined EBRD Green Cities program in September 2018, with the aim to develop a strategy to improve water, air and soil quality, upgrade transport services and infrastructure, and promote knowledge-sharing by working with international experts.
