European Sustainable Energy Week and Energy Days are gaining popularity among the signatories to the Covenant of Mayors in Moldova. Due to COVID-19, the activities under EUSEW 2020 were carried out exclusively online in the Republic of Moldova, but there was a wide participation of signatories and support structures.

Proof of this is the popularity of the competition "Online trip to the localities of CoM East signatories" organised by the team of the CoM-East project in Moldova. Participants were required to create virtual tours to their cities and municipalities. Ten signatories from Moldova took part in the competition. Every day of the EU Sustainable Energy Week, June 22-26, 2020, we practically took a trip to the beautiful cities and villages of Moldova and saw how they change as part of the Covenant of Mayors.

The jury determined three winners. The first place is the town of Ialoveni, the second is the village of Festelita and the third is the town of Stauceni.

Two bicycles, an electric scooter, tree planting vouchers of the Covenant of Mayors alley and other promotional materials are commemorative awards from the CoM East project for successful participation in the Competition. The awards were handed over in a festive atmosphere on September 2, 2020. During the ceremony, the mayors of these three municipalities were congratulated by Gintautas Baranauskas, Deputy Head of Operations at the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, and Victor Parlicov, national expert of the Covenant of Mayors in the Republic of Moldova.

“Energy Day has become a great tradition in Ialoveni and we are delighted that this year we also had the opportunity to participate in this competition. We love the first prize. These bicycles will be used for environmental activities in our area”, said Sergiu Armasu, Mayor of Ialoveni.
