The CoM East project experts in six Eastern Partnership countries take part in a variety of seminars, conferences and thematic activities communicating the CoM East targets, goals and objectives to all interested stakeholders, including potential Signatories, media representatives and the general public.
European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) and Energy Days 2019
In May ‒ June 2019, traditional European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) brought together public authorities, private companies, NGOs and consumers to promote energy saving initiatives and the clean energy transition in Europe and beyond. In addition to multiple activities in the EU countries, a large number of events were organised in the Eastern Partner countries – Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
Covenant of Mayors East project (CoM East) traditionally joined the EUSEW celebrations and provided technical and advisory support to the CoM Signatories to help them promote successful energy efficiency practices, inspire innovative ideas and join efforts to achieve the EU goals in overcoming the consequences of climate change, improving energy efficiency and energy security.
In total, in May-June 2019, 119 municipalities in six Eastern Partnership countries (out of 417 CoM Signatories) organised Energy Days arranging around 1560 different activities with involvement of over 100 thousand people, the estimated cumulative number of reached people. The CoM East Team prepared and published a special issue of the Newsletter fully dedicated to the EUSEW 2019 celebration in the EaP countries.
High-Level Eastern Partnership Conference “Municipalities for Sustainable Growth”
On November 22-23, 2018 Kyiv hosted a high-level conference “Municipalities for Sustainable Growth” organised by two major EU initiatives for the Eastern Partnership countries – the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors for Economic Growth, and three projects – CoM East, CoM-DeP and M4EG. The event fostered dialogue on the role of local municipalities in identifying and addressing the complexities of sustainable development, economic resilience, and climate action. About 400 representatives of local and national authorities, associations of local authorities and other stakeholders from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, as well as EC representatives attended the conference.
The conference was opened by Peter Wagner, Head of Support Group for Ukraine (DG NEAR, European Commission), Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Ostap Semerak, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and the deputy chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Petro Panteleev.
“It is great to see that two key EU initiatives, the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors for Economic Growth, have joined forces to bring over 320 Mayors from the Eastern Partnership region to Kyiv: around the globe and in the EU, municipalities play an increasingly important role in making real changes on the ground with a direct impact on living conditions for the population,” – said Peter Wagner, Head of Support Group for Ukraine.
