Thanks to the EU-funded project ‘EU for Yerevan solar community’, 90 apartment buildings in Yerevan, Armenia, will switch to renewable energy. The project is implemented within the programme ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects’, and aims at reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions in Yerevan through renewable energy sources and energy efficiency measures.

The energy modernisation works include the installation of solar-powered systems with total capacity of 630 kW, nearly 400 outdoor LED lights and 5,500 indoor LED lights with motion sensors. The implemented measures will cut local residents’ electricity bills by 50%.
