On 4 November, five water supply and sewerage initiatives and two energy efficiency projects were launched in the district of Leova, Republic of Moldova, thanks to EU support.

As part of the project ‘Modernisation of local public services in the Republic of Moldova’, the secondary schools Constantin Spătaru in Leova and Matei Basarab in Basarabeasca will receive comprehensive energy modernisation: wall insulation, new windows and roof, and a rehabilitated heating system. As a result, over 1,000 students, teachers and municipal staff will benefit from a better learning and work environment. Meanwhile, about 12,000 people in the city of Leova and the villages of Iargara, Cupcui, Filipeni and Romanovca will soon have access to quality drinking water and sewerage services.

The activities carried out within the project are funded by the EU and managed by the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit. The EU is currently supporting eight energy efficiency and ten water and sewer supply projects, which will run until 2021 in 18 locations across the country. The total cost of the works amounts to over €11 million.
