Syvash wind farm, in the Chaplynka district of the Kherson region of Ukraine, is a 250MW onshore wind project being developed in the country. Upon completion, it will become the biggest renewable energy project in the country.

The project is being developed by SyvashEnergoProm. It has an estimated investment of €380 million and is also supported by the Ukrainian Government, the Office of the National Investment Council, and regional authorities. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) provided a long-term senior loan of €75 million ($84.6 million)  under its Ukraine Sustainable Energy Lending Facility III framework. The Green for Growth Fund , to which the EU is one of the donors, and the Netherlands Development Finance Company also jointly provided a loan of €75 million ($84.6m).

The wind farm will be built in two phases during 2020. The first phase of construction began in September 2018 and is scheduled for completion in December 2019.

The farm is expected to generate 850 GWh of clean electricity a year, which will be enough power for approximately 100,000 households. It will also create a positive impact on the environment by offsetting 860,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and saving 480,000 tonnes of coal a year. The wind farm will also support the Energy Strategy of Ukraine, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix to 25% by 2035.
