On July 30, an online awards ceremony was held for the winners of the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2020. The ceremony was attended by Andrea Baggioli, Head of the International Assistance / Cooperation Department of the EU Delegation in Armenia, Tetiana Derevyankina, CoM East Communication Manager, National Coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors in Armenia.

In April 2018, Pinsk joined the Covenant of Mayors, a mass movement of local and regional authorities united by a voluntary commitment to develop policies based on sustainable energy principles on their territories.

Today, every resident of Ukraine consumes three times more energy than a resident of the EU. And this is not only spent resources, but also harmful emissions into the atmosphere, that is, environmental pollution. To learn how to save and efficiently use energy resources is a challenge of the time and an urgent need today. These are the issues that this week's events are dedicated to.

On July 30, 2020, an online ceremony of awarding the winners of four competitions organized by the EC project ′′Covenant of Mayors - East′′ in Armenia within the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week in Armenia was held.

The low absorption capacity of the local public authorities is one of the main barriers in the implementation of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Practically no major successful project was implemented with own forces by the local administration, these being almost all put into practice with the foreign donors’ support. The absence of experts in the field, who should be remunerated appropriately, is another problem, said participants in a debate staged by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, IPN reports.

The Joint Research Center has updated the national emission factors for electricity for Covenant of Mayors signatory cities from the Eastern Partnership countries.
