On 12 June, the EU announced it would allocate over €800,000 for the development of Ukraine’s Donetsk National Technical University.

The university is temporarily located in Pokrovsk. The EU-funded project ‘Energy-efficient digital university for the promotion of technical innovations’ (EDUTIP) will support the extensive renovation of several university buildings, as well as the modernisation and setup of educational and scientific laboratories.

The project will also help establish an innovation centre to serve as an open platform for interaction between the university and the local community, a career centre, the start-up club ’YEP! DonNTU‘ and an accelerator of innovative youth projects.

EDUTIP will also focus on developing the university’s student council, supporting student sports and art clubs, arranging training and exchange trips, and developing youth entrepreneurship.

As a result of the project, the university is expected to acquire the status of a true regional centre of technical and social innovations. The project aims to improve the ability of local businesses and their employees to develop and use innovative solutions, and it will generate the interest of local youth in technical education. Developing the student council will increase students’ confidence and social activity, especially among those temporarily displaced due to the armed conflict in Donbas.
