For years, the EU has been helping small towns in Belarus implement their ambitious energy efficiency projects. One successful example is a preschool in the town of Ašmiany, which is on the path to full thermal modernisation. The support is part of the EU-funded programme ‘Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects'.

The preschool has received a new energy-efficient heating system and solar-powered equipment to enable temperature control and preserve the balance between outdoor and indoor temperatures. These measures will help the building consume up to 50% less energy and avoid energy losses. They will also reduce the preschool’s CO2  emissions by 150 tonnes a year. As a result, children and staff will also benefit from more comfortable conditions.
