On 30 June, the Ternopil City Council signed the first contract for the thermal rehabilitation of 12 kindergartens with EU support. In total, 23 municipal kindergartens and 16 schools will be insulated and modernised within three years, with a total investment of €30.5 million.

The project in Ternopil is a part of a larger facility of the European Investment Bank (EIB) — the Ukraine Municipal Infrastructure Programme (UMIP), a multi-sector investment programme with a total loan amount of €400 million. It is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Communities and Territorial Development of Ukraine and the Ministry of Finance. The Ternopil project also benefits from technical assistance support provided through the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund (EPTATF), managed by the EIB.

The energy rehabilitation of educational buildings in Ternopil includes insulation of facades (with the ventilated facade technology), roofs and floors, installation of new windows and doors, and new heating and ventilation systems, switching to new low-power LED lamps.

Thanks to EIB funding, the amount of CO2 emissions in Ternopil will be cut by 300,000 kg annually. Gas consumption reduction will reach 140,000 m3 per year. In addition, it will extend the operational life of educational buildings by at least 30 years.
