As part of the EU-supported “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects” programme, the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi will modernise its street lighting. Through the plans, 4,170 street lamps will be replaced with energy-efficient alternatives.

This will help the city to be more energy efficient and save money on electricity bills, as well as to reduce CO2 emissions.

In addition, 16 solar panels have already been installed in three city districts to power the street lighting during the night. “Solar panels are a good solution! Now we can spend more time with the children outside in the evening and feel safe,” said Anna Kachalo, a local resident.
