On 30 January, in Minsk, Belarus, EU4Energy officials held a meeting on natural gas market reform. The meeting focused on the internal natural gas market of Belarus and the gas market of the Eurasian Economic Union. The parties agreed that EU4Energy will provide a draft report with recommendations on the alignment of the existing natural gas legislative framework with best EU and international practices.

The meeting was attended by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade and Beltopgaz. This technical assistance activity is part of EU4Energy, an EU-supported initiative providing technical assistance to Eastern Partnership countries, seeking to approximate areas of their energy sectors with best practices in the European Union.

The meeting was part of a series of meetings held on 28-30 January 2020 in Minsk. The meetings were dedicated to the development of a legislative framework for the natural gas market and the evaluation of implementation of the recommendations provided in the Energy Investment Risk Assessment (EIRA) report. Parties such as EU4Energy, the Energy Charter Secretariat together with the European Union in Belarus, the World Bank and representatives of the government of Belarus were actively involved in the discussions.
