The citizens of Bălți, the Republic of Moldova, will benefit from better and greener public transport thanks to the planned acquisition of 10 new energy-efficient trolleybuses. The green public transport vehicles are funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the EU-supported Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) fund.
The trolleybuses will run on electricity and their new battery-powered technology will enable them to reach remote areas without the need of overhead wires.
The funding received from the EBRD and the E5P fund will also help expand existing routes and improve the overall efficiency of the public transport service, especially in densely populated areas. The city also plans to improve the existing energy supply infrastructure and purchase maintenance equipment.
