On 27 and 28 February a workshop titled ‘Advancing Covenant of Mayors in Eastern Partnership countries’ was held in Minsk, Belarus, to discuss effective ways of strengthening communication on the new Covenant in the region. The two-day event was organised by the ‘Covenant of Mayors East’ project and implemented under the ‘EU4Energy’ programme, with the support of the EU Delegation to Belarus.

The workshop was attended by representatives of national authorities and NGOs from the six Eastern partner countries, and representatives of the EU delegation to Belarus. At the session, Mr. Tomas Stravinskas from the EU Delegation to Belarus noted that energy efficiency and renewable energy sources are the priority of the European Green Deal, which will enable Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. He added, “I would like to emphasise the importance of the Covenant of Mayors initiative in implementing this policy. It is one of the best programmes being rapidly implemented in the European municipalities and in the Eastern Partnership countries.”

The workshop provided an excellent opportunity for Covenant National Coordinators and supporters to step up their joint efforts in promoting the EU’s energy and climate targets and sharing good communication practices among the Eastern partner countries.
