The second conference on the Belarusian signatories of the EU-supported Covenant of Mayors East initiative will be held on June 28 in Iuje, Grodno region. The event will bring together representatives of Belarusian cities that are signatories of the Covenant of Mayors, who will present innovative approaches in the areas of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating climate change. Participants will be able to exchange experiences and assess progress achieved over the past year.

Representatives of Belarusian cities will also discuss ways of increasing energy efficiency and finding financial opportunities for the implementation of energy projects.

In addition, the conference programme includes a visit to demonstration sites where the energy efficient projects are being implemented. The conference is part of “Strong CoM – Strengthening the Covenant of Mayors Movement in Belarus”, funded by the European Union under the EU4Energy initiative.

Covenant of Mayors East is part of the EU4Energy initiative. EU4Energy covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine). It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the long term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
