Thanks to EU support, four educational buildings (two secondary schools and two preschools) in the city of Cantemir, the Republic of Moldova, will undergo complete thermal modernisation to become more energy efficient. The buildings have already been equipped with solar panels, which has significantly reduced their CO₂ emissions and cut their electricity bills.

The photovoltaic panels will also serve as a successful demonstration project in the field of renewable energy. Each unit has a rated power of 5 kW and is connected to the distribution system through a net-metering scheme, which will allow for energy savings between 20% and 80%, depending on the building.

The energy modernisation works are implemented within the EU-funded project ‘Thermal rehabilitation of the educational buildings in Cantemir’ under the programme ′Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration projects′. The green energy production facilities were made possible thanks to the ‘SEIORE’ project, funded by the United Nations Development Programme’s Small Grants Programme.
