Belarusian cities organised more than 400 energy events in the framework of this year’s European Union Sustainable Energy Week. 35 cities that participate in the EU-funded Covenant of Mayors East initiative hosted events including environmental forums, ecological festivals, bike rides, sports activities and excursions, seminars, children’s art exhibitions and photo competitions.

Movies about the environment and cities were screened in Pinsk and the “ZOOM - Kids on the move” campaign for schoolchildren was implemented. Navahrudak organised the Republican Environmental Forum and representatives of the city authorities participated in the EU Sustainable Energy Award ceremony in Brussels on 18 June.

Baranavičy, Ašmiany, Orša, Haradok, Smarhoń, Karma, Hlybokaje, Kobryn, Bychaŭ, Čavusy and other cities organised activities involving children such as ecological fairy tales, bike rides, races and quizzes.

The Polack Hydroelectric Power Plant also opened its doors for schoolchildren for the second year during the Energy Days. The children learned about how electricity is generated with water.

The Interakcia Foundation and IPO Ecopartnership helped the cities to organise the Energy Days in Belarus with the financial support of the EU Delegation to Belarus. More than 400 large and small-scale events were organised in total over the months of May and June.
