Covenant of Mayors – East (CoM East) participated in Europe Day 2025 celebrations across two key locations in Moldova – Chișinău and Căușeni, highlighting local and European efforts to foster a greener, more resilient future.

On 9 May in Chișinău, the CoM East team engaged with visitors at the European Village, alongside EU partners and national institutions. Citizens, families, and local authorities explored how EU-funded projects support Moldova’s energy transition. The CoM East stand featured educational activities for children inspired by the Covenant’s animated characters Ivy, Alex, Scout, and Luna, who promote climate action in a fun and engaging format.

The CoM East team also welcomed representatives of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova and the Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu. Together, they discussed the recently adopted Roadmap, endorsed by nearly 70 Covenant signatories. This strategic document strengthens dialogue between local and central authorities and serves as a key mechanism for accessing EU funding. The Roadmap reflects the practical needs of municipalities — including technical assistance, financing opportunities, and capacity building — and proposes integrating these priorities into Moldova’s EU-supported Economic Growth Plan.

On 17 May, CoM East joined the Europe Day festivities in Căușeni. The Covenant stand attracted strong local interest, showcasing the municipality’s commitment to reducing CO₂ emissions and improving environmental quality. The team promoted local initiatives for sustainable energy, energy efficiency, and affordable energy supply, while workshops for children and youth created an interactive space to discuss climate issues.

Across both events, CoM East underlined the critical role of municipalities in Moldova’s green transition and celebrated shared European values — sustainability, solidarity, and local empowerment.
