On 8 August 2025, Yerevan hosted the culminating event of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) in Armenia – the award ceremony recognising the winners of four national contests organised by the Covenant of Mayors – East (CoM East).

Throughout the summer, communities across Armenia marked EUSEW 2025 with Energy Days that inspired children and young people to explore sustainable energy and climate action. Creative activities such as drawing, photography, sports events, forums, exhibitions, and other interactive activities promoted low-carbon, climate-resilient development.

With the ongoing support of CoM East and the active involvement of local partners, more Covenant signatories than ever joined the celebrations. This year, fifteen municipalities participated, and the number of community-led events doubled, reaching 127 and involving almost 9,000 participants and stakeholders.

The programme showcased remarkable diversity: sports competitions, interactive training sessions, exhibitions, information brochures, Wiki-club meetings, thematic film screenings, article contests, cycling races, quizzes, musicals, and more. The celebration generated over 620 publications on social media and local authority websites, attracting around 37,000 engagements.

Winners of local contests in drawing, photography, and short videos advanced to national-level competitions run by CoM East, with the best works selected by a project jury. The project also honoured the most effective municipal organisers of Energy Days.

The Yerevan ceremony brought together over 50 participants from fifteen communities, including local authority representatives, contest winners, their families and teachers, and the CoM East Armenia team. In his opening remarks, Mr Artem Kharazyan, CoM East Country Expert for Armenia, welcomed participants and set the tone for the celebration. Mrs Tatevik Harutyunyan, Local Communication Expert, outlined the objectives of the Covenant of Mayors, the CoM East project, and EUSEW, and presented a summary of Armenia’s events and contests.

The event concluded with the announcement of thirty winners across the four CoM East contests, each receiving certificates, prizes, and gift cards for sports equipment. Additional prizes went to winners of an online competition for the best photo taken in the CoM East photo zone during Europe Day in Armenia 2025.
