Georgia: Awarding of Winners in the Contest for the Best Digital Sustainable Energy Day-2020 Organizer
By organizing 29 various digital and outdoor events the teams of 11 Georgian CoM signatories fought over the prizes in the CoM East contest for the “Best Digital Sustainable Energy Day-2020 Organizer”, conducted by the CoM East together with the Energy Efficiency Center Georgia, which is the Covenant Supporter in Georgia. On July 10, 2020 during the online presentation of entries for the contest the best 3 organizers were announced. The best 3 organizers of the Sustainable Energy Days and prize winners became representatives of Mtskheta municipality – the 1st place, Gori and Bolnisi municipalities, the 2nd and 3rd place winners accordingly. All participating municipalities also received certificates of participation in Sustainable Energy Week EUSEW2020.
The Sustainable Energy Day events organized by the contest winner team headed by Maka Petrenko included: the contest in rowing “Healthy Lifestyle for Sustainable Future” and online conference “The impact of the global pandemic on the world and the importance of sustainable energy. The role of women in improving climate change and energy efficiency”. The day events ended with gathering of booklovers at Mtskheta Central Square – “Reading Hour” event with the main motto “Read the printed books & save electricity”– a joint project of National Library & Mtskheta Municipality “Square Reading Room”.
The Sustainable Energy week events organized by the 2-d place winners – Dimitri Gogiashvili & Natia Khachiuri brought together Gori young people to Intellectual Games “What? Where? When?” to talk about sustainable development, organized contest of essays “House of Future”, held online discussions on sustainable energy development in the country.
Online quiz for schoolchildren with the motto “Lighten your mind” related to energy efficiency, climate change and renewable energy organized by the Bolnisi municipality team led by Tamar Khoperia brought the team the 3rd place in CoM East contest.
While announcement of the winners of the contest happened online, due to the COVID-19 pandemics the award ceremonies were organized in July-August in the municipalities. Konstantine Tavzarashvili, the mayor of Gori municipality, Otar Chkheidze, deputy mayor of Mtskheta, and Valentina Naveriani, deputy mayor of Bolnisi municipality, welcomed the winners of the contest. George Abulashvili, the CoM East country expert, EECG Director handed over the prizes to the winners: various types of electric shooters and certificates.
