With a EUR 4.36 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) under the ‘Ukraine Urban Public Transport’ (UUPTP) project, the city of Lutsk, Ukraine, will benefit from 29 new energy efficient trolleybuses and greener public transport. Overall, 217,000 people living in Lutsk will benefit from the investment and gain better mobility around the city.

“A higher level of customer service and sustainability of public transport in Ukrainian cities will increase citizens’ quality of life, improve the environment and ensure energy savings. Sustainable, reliable and safe transportation will enhance economic growth and improve accessibility while respecting the environment,” says Jean-Erik de Zagon, Head of the EIB in Ukraine.

The EIB is a committed partner of Ukraine in financing public transport infrastructure projects. When investing in transport, the EIB pursues two core objectives: to make transport greener, safer and accessible and to strengthen the connectivity of goods and people. Since 2007, the EIB has signed financial contracts with Ukraine worth more than EUR 2 billion in various transport infrastructure projects within the country.
