Ukraine has become the first country in the Energy Community to implement the Capacity Allocation Network Code. On 1 May, the Ukrainian and Hungarian gas transmission system operators, LLC and FGSZ, established the first virtual interconnection point ‘Bereg’ on two interconnection points (Beregovo and Beregdaróc) in line with the Capacity Allocation Mechanisms Network Code.

This was the result of the support provided by the Energy Community Secretariat to the Ukrainian national regulatory authority NEURC, which amended the country’s Gas Transmission Code in February 2020.

This is the first time that an Energy Community country and an EU Member State bring together their transmission system operators and regulatory authorities in a joint virtual interconnection point to facilitate the implementation of gas network codes. The aim is to enhance market integration, liquidity and security of supply for all parties involved.
