On 27 May, experts involved in the EU4Climate project presented recommendations and an action plan for transposing climate acquis of the EU into the national legislation of the Republic of Moldova.

This is part of EU assistance to the country to support commitments it made by acceding to the Energy Community Treaty in 2010 and signing the Association Agreement in 2014.

The aim of the action plan is to integrate Moldova’s energy and climate planning processes into one document in order to deliver a coordinated approach towards low-carbon development. This is to be submitted to the Energy Community Secretariat in October 2020, following national, regional and international consultations.

With a total budget of €8.8 million, the EU4Climate project is being implemented from 2019-2022 and has several components. Funded by the EU and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, the project supports the development and implementation of climate policies by six of the EU’s Eastern partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine), contributing to low emission and climate resilient development, as well as to commitments made to the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
