On 6 September, the national finals of the world’s largest competition for green business projects ClimateLaunchpad took place in Kyiv, Ukraine. The winners representing Ukraine are TimeMachine4Energy in first place, and Geodesic.Life and HVgreen holding second and third place respectively. They will compete at the global grand finals from 30 September to 2 October with start-ups from 55 other countries.

This year, despite the challenges of the pandemic, the competition received over 30 applications from Ukraine, of which six teams were selected for the national finals:

  • Geodesic.Life – energy-efficient houses for eco-friendly life;
  • HVgreen – smart vertical gardens for home and office;
  • TimeMachine4Energy – an energy storage system based on aluminium compounds;
  • TarilUA – a delivery service of clean dishes to avoid the use of single-use plastics;
  • Space Logistics Ukraine – waste-free rockets for sub-orbital launches of small satellites;
  • Hybrid Airship – a hybrid airship for low-carbon air cargo transportation.

This is Ukraine’s fifth time participating in the ClimateLaunchpad competition, with Ukrainians bringing back different prizes from the grand finals for three consecutive years. So far, the competition has helped over 60 green Ukrainian entrepreneurs improve their business models and get started. Since 2016, the national partner of ClimateLaunchpad in Ukraine has been the Greencubator network.

Over the years, the competition has reached over 70 countries worldwide, and has grown into a global ecosystem for innovative ideas that will shape the green economy of the future. The ClimateLaunchpad competition is organised with financial support from the Green for Growth Fund and is co-financed by the EU initiative ‘EU4Energy’.
