The 2nd All-Ukrainian Forum of the Energy Efficiency Fund was held virtually on 23 September, and brought together representatives of the Ukrainian state, executive and local authorities, along with Ukrainian and international experts on energy efficiency in the residential sector, to discuss the pace of energy efficiency developments and reforms in Ukraine.

“This year has been decisive for the Fund; in September 2019, the Energodim Program was launched, helping condominiums to implement energy-efficient projects. A year later, the Fund received 204 applications for more than 1.3 billion Hryvnias, and more than 18,000 Ukrainian families are now participating in the energy modernisation program,” said Yulia Golovatyuk-Ungureanu, Director of the Energy Efficiency Fund.

Matti Maasikas, Ambassador of the European Union in Ukraine, also addressed participants in the Forum. In his speech, he emphasised that energy efficiency is a key milestone in Ukraine's energy independence, as around 50% of the residential heating energy in the country is currently wasted annually, with the residential sector consuming three to four times more energy than its neighbouring EU countries.

“Energy efficiency is at the centre of the new EU policy – [the] EU Green Deal. It has been over the last years, and it will remain one of the most important areas of cooperation between the EU and Ukraine. We strongly believe that energy efficiency will have a large impact on the country, as it helps families save money on energy bills and create better living conditions, [and] allows the state to scale back its energy subsidies and direct capital to other important areas, like public health and education. In order to help Ukraine to make energy efficiency a reality, the EU has been supporting Ukraine in transposition of the EU legislation and establishing the energy efficiency fund,” said Mr. Maasikas.

“It is gratifying that our international partners support the Fund's initiatives and make great efforts to form a common vision for the development of energy efficiency reforms,” he added.
